- Developed algorithms to perform localisation and tracking of a person / object within a WSN in an Energy Neutral manner, both in simulation and firmware. Successfully demonstrated at the 8th Workshop in Speckled Computing.
- Developed EN Network architecture to improve network visualisation, database management, data graphing and visualisation, integration with SpeckSim, and connection to a WSN via GSM/3G. Used successfully in various physical deployments, both internally for testing and on-site with the Scottish Agricultural College.
- Developed simulations of IEEE 802.15.4 networks and protocols in the SpeckSim network simulator, using the findings to develop firmware for Energy Neutral embedded devices.
- Performed testing and quality assurance of the MotionViewer software application for motion tracking using Orient Specks.
- Developed a networked application architecture and software for use with a WSN. The architecture provided a client-server mechanism for communication between subsystems to collect data from the network, process and store it, and manipulate and visualise it.
- Provided remote and onsite support to national companies to manage their IT needs, including email, web-hosting, private VPN, and remote access.
- Installed remote-access capabilities to industry standard CCTV systems to allow remote viewing and administration of the installation.
- Developed and tested an automatic server-deployment application to install and build all necessary software, libraries and configuration required to run an ENMAC server. Two versions were created: web-based and dvd. Successfully used to rapidly build and deploy servers in Russia.
- Developed an automatic server backup application to perform routine backups of database and file system data on a pool of servers running ENMAC software, whilst ensuring the ENMAC network was still available throughout. Successfully used on Scottish Power's ENMAC network.
- Created a virtualised environment for testing and deployment of ENMAC software using VMWare ESX virtualisation technology. Successfully used inhouse to demonstrate ENMAC to potential clients.
- Performed configuration and maintenance for a cluster of RHEL servers running cPanel web hosting software.
- Developed architecture to perform multi-site synchronisation of data to ensure redundancy of crucial websites across data centres.
I have a passion and keen interest for photography, particularly of people, events and travel. In my spare time I have undertaken some photographic sessions with clients attending graduations, proms and other events. I have previously covered journalistic events such as the Edinburgh Festival's Calvalcade, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and Alistair Darling's (Chancellor of the Exchequer and MP) visit to the School of Informatics with photos from these events published by the BBC and University Press.
I enjoy listening to music and playing the guitar in addition to sound engineering and DJing for live events and private functions.
I regularly attend Community Church Edinburgh where I am an active member of a weekly fellowship group and the student community as a whole. Until recently, I ran a weekly bible study group for students and young people in the Edinburgh area.
For many years I have enjoyed mountain biking in the Pentland Hills, which has recently extended to road cycling in Edinburgh and the nearby area. In the upcoming months I plan to cycle from Lands' End to John O'Groats to raise money for charity.
